A vibrant and welcoming mural that brings some color and fun to the street.
The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island is located in Providence, RI. As a security measure, they installed large concrete planters in front of the main entrance. The barriers were left unadorned for several months. The staff at the Alliance reached out to me because they realized the concrete planters were actually an opportunity to bring some vibrancy and color to the building, and to communicate a welcoming message to everyone passing by. Everyone is welcome at the Alliance, and the staff wanted people to feel a sense of fun and excitement when they passed by the building.
The brief was simple: incorporate the colors of the logo and include the words "welcome" and "shalom." Bring a sense of fun and play, and keep it loose.
The Alliance's logo provided the main inspiration for this planter mural. Drawing on the logo's colors, I create an abstract and organic design that plays on the wave and star in the logo. The vibrant colors and welcoming lettering clearly communicate the organization's priorities and fit within their branding guidelines. I wanted the lettering to feel somewhat rounded to communicate a sense of casual play.

It was so fun and rewarding to paint the security barrier planter mural outside the Jewish Alliance. So many people walked and drove by, pausing to tell me how much they loved the bright pop of color! The original planters were drab and boring, and now they communicate a clear message of welcoming and vibrancy.
